Young People's Unit
Welcome to the Young People's Unit.
We are very pleased to be able to accommodate young people in either female or male bays with en suite toilet and shower facilities.
We also have a common room where you can watch TV, play games, chat to your friends or just relax. There are coffee and tea facilities and you could warm up food as well.
We have a hospital school and we would encourage you to attend there or ask for help from the teachers as soon as you feel up to it. They can get your own school teachers to send work for you if necessary.
We are committed to providing a safe and secure environment for you, your family and all our staff. We ask you not to bring any sharp objects, illegal drugs or alcohol to the ward and to hand all medication to the nurses. We have a "No tolerance policy" for acts of verbal or physical abuse towards other patients, visitors, your own families, staff and other service users. Disregarding those rules may result in us having to involve hospital security or indeed the police. The Trust operates a non-smoking policy.
Your parents have open visiting times and, therefore, can visit any time. Other family members and your friends can visit you from 10.00am until 20.00 pm every day. If you need to leave the ward for any reason you will need to be accompanied by an adult.
We know that having to be admitted to hospital can be a daunting experience for everybody. However we hope we can make your stay as comfortable as possible. If you would like to talk to any medical or nursing staff in private, please do ask us and we will find a safe place and time to talk to you.
Your feedback is very important and we would be grateful if you could fill in a feedback form prior to leaving the hospital.
If you are interested in becoming involved in our user group forum for young people please let the matron know. This user group will also help us to ensure that we reach the highest standards possible for young people who are admitted to hospital. We are aiming to have 3 meetings per year. As a token of our appreciation we will provide you with £10 iTUNES vouchers.
We hope you get well soon.
Don't hesitate to ask any questions and we will help if we can.
